On July 12, 2020, Bingzhe Wu from the Center of Energy-efficient Computing and Applications (CECA) received the 2020 Apple PhD Fellowship (the only scholar from mainland China). This program is created to recognize the outstanding PhD students for their contributions in computer science and engineering. Each Apple Scholar will receive support for their research and academic travel for two years, internship opportunities, and a two-year mentorship with an Apple researcher in their field. Nominated students were selected based on their innovative research, record as thought leaders and collaborators in their fields, and unique commitment to take risks and push the envelope in machine learning and AI.
Bingzhe Wu is a PhD candidate supervised by Prof. Guangyu Sun. Bingzhe focuses on the privacy-preserving machine learning and has won many honors, such as the National Scholarship, the Ten Most Talented Researchers in EECS, and the Principal Scholarship at Peking University. He addresses the privacy-preserving problem with cross-layer research from three different dimensions, i.e. theory, algorithm design, and system-hardware optimization. The corresponding privacy leakage analysis framework, privacy protection mechanism, and optimized computing system are designed for a series of commonly used machine learning algorithms.
