Li, Sheng is an associate professor in the Department of Computer Science and technology, School of EECS, and has served at the Graphics and Interaction Lab. since 2005. He obtained his B.Sc. and M.Sc. from ShanDong University in 1997 and 2000 respectively, and Ph.D. from Chinese Academy of Science in 2005. His research interests include 3D computer graphics, virtual reality and augment reality, simulation and animation.
Dr. Li has published more than 60 research papers, and many of them are published in top-tier conferences and journals, such as ACM TOG, CGF, I3D, and SCA. He has applied more than 30 Chinese patents and 14 of them have been authorized. He won the 1st class Science and Technology Progress Award of Ministry of Education in 2009 (Ranking 2), 2nd class Science and Technology Progress Award of Ministry of Education in 2000, 1st class Science and Technology Progress Award of JiangSu Province in 2016 (Ranking 3).
Dr. Li has investigated or co-investigated more than ten research projects including NSFC, National High Technology Research and Development Program of China, etc. His research achievements are summarized as follows:
1) Virtual reality and realtime rendering engine: He proposed some speedup technologies of realtime rendering for large-scale virtual environments, including deferred shading framework with anti-aliasing, realtime and realistic rendering of various complex phenomena, selective refinement for global illumination on VR device. These methods have been integrated into large-scale virtual reality system like flight simulation system.
2) Physical simulation and animation: He proposed some efficient computation and simulation method based on physical rules for animation and game, including realtime collision detection, quadratic contact energy resolver for multiple contact, MPM deformable objects and example-based deformation, peridynamics fracture for elastoplastic solids, incompressible fluid and its coupling with other objects. These methods also form a physical simulation engine and can simulate various substances with different form in nature.
