About the Department

The Department of Computer Sciences and Technology (http://cs.pku.edu.cn/English/Home.htm) of Peking University was established in 1978. Within the School of Electronics Engineering and Computer Science, the Department of Computer Science and Technology consists of five internationally known research institutions: Center for Energy-Efficient Computing and Applications, Institute of Computer Architecture, Institute of Computational Linguistics, Institute of Computer Networks and Information Systems, Institute of Digital Media, and Institute of Software.

According to the 2020 QS World University Rankings by Subject, Peking University is ranked the 19th around the world in the Subject of “Computer Science”. According to CSRankings, a metrics-based ranking of top computer science institutions, Peking University is ranked globally as 1st, 2nd, 3rd in Software Engineering, Natural Language Processing, and Artificial Intelligence, respectively.

The currently more than 100 faculty members and more than 1,500 students from the Department of Computer Science and Technology of Peking University are conducting cutting-ledge research in various research areas, such as software engineering, information security, human-computer interaction and multimedia, natural language processing, database, data mining, cloud computing, mobile computing, microprocessor, digital audio and video coding, multimedia communications, reconfigurable computing, non-volatile memory technology, 3D chip technology, hardware architecture for energy efficient wireless LAN, and energy-efficient applications.

Why Peking University?

·Aiming for big.The department encourages professors to pursue big impacts, either by original research results that lead the world's research community, or by solving critical domestic problems that help the development of the country. The department does not encourage the professors to pursue the number of papers or the number of papers in top conferences/journals, and will never evaluate professors based on those.

·Tenure-Track System.Peking University is one of the few Chinese universities that adopts a tenure-track system similar to US, encouraging the professors to perform original research.

·Excellent Students.Peking University is consistently considered as one of the top 2 universities in China, and the admission is extremely selective: only 0.03% of high school graduates are able to enter Peking University. The faculty are expected to work with top minds in the world.

Opening Positions and Requirements

The Department of Computer Science and Technology of Peking University has opening positions for tenure-track professors at all levels (tenure-track assistant professor, tenure-track associate professor, tenured associate professor, and tenured full professor). The applicant should have a Ph.D. degree, work experience matching the corresponding job, and the capability for top-class research.

After the first round of selection, the passed applicants for pre-tenure positions should provide three or more reference letters, and will be invited to attend the online Youth Forum on the Next Generation Computer Sciences hosted by the Department of Computer Science and Technology of Peking University, Beijing, China from December 19th-20th, 2020. This forum will serve as an exciting opportunity for the young scholars to exchange academic ideas and latest innovations on computing.

After the first round of selection, the passed applicants for tenured positions will go through a peer-reviewing process according to the requirements of the tenure evaluation. The department will contact the reviewers directly, and the applicant will have a chance to suggest a list of reviewers.
