The 4th International Summer School on Advanced Topics in Computer Science Concludes Successfully at Peking University

From July 6 to 17, 2026, the 4th International Summer School on Advanced Topics in Computer Science, organized by the School of Computer Science at Peking University, was held on the Yanyuan Campus and concluded successfully. Over the course of this intensive two-week academic journey, 17 international students from renowned overseas universities, together with more than 10 outstanding domestic students, participated in a deep exploration of cutting-edge technologies and cross-cultural exchange.

The curriculum spanned core domains including software, hardware, artificial intelligence, networks, and systems, covering a broad range of cutting-edge topics such as programming languages, open-source data analysis to ubiquitous computing, AI-era database systems, natural language processing and large language models, embodied intelligence, hardware-software co-design, intelligent video transmission, and computer vision. Taught jointly by 13 faculty members, the curriculum combined lectures, interactive discussions, and practical case studies, providing students with a comprehensive introduction to the School's wide-ranging research strengths and academic excellence. Participants noted that the curriculum offered both breadth and depth. The professors demonstrated strong expertise and taught with great enthusiasm, consistently encouraging students to ask questions and engage in discussions, fostering an open and dynamic classroom atmosphere.

Beyond the classroom, the program featured a series of industry visits and cultural activities. Students visited Huawei Technologies and the Xiaomi EV Super Factory, where they gained firsthand insight into China's latest advances in telecommunications, artificial intelligence, intelligent manufacturing, and electric vehicle production. A cultural excursion to the Summer Palace offered participants an immersive experience of traditional Chinese culture and classical garden aesthetics. In addition, a special session by the School of Electronic and Computer Engineering, Peking University Shenzhen Graduate School introduced students to the University's development in the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area.

At the closing ceremony on July 17, Professor Zhou Minghui, Director of the summer school and Vice Dean of the School of Computer Science, delivered the closing remarks. She noted that the program had offered outstanding students from around the world a valuable opportunity to engage with the School's strengths across multiple frontier areas of computer science, while also broadening their international perspectives through meaningful cross-cultural exchange. Though brief, the two-week program enabled participants from diverse backgrounds to forge mutual understanding and lasting connections through intellectual dialogue.

Following the address, participants delivered group presentations reviewing their learning outcomes and reflecting on their experiences. Many students shared that one of the most valuable takeaways was the opportunity to live and learn alongside like-minded peers, inspiring one another and forming lasting friendships. Several also mentioned that this was their first visit to China, describing the experience as truly eye-opening, and expressed their hope to return to Peking University's School of Computer Science for further studies in the future.

After the presentations, Professor Zhou Minghui presented each participant with a certificate of completion. She encouraged participants to cherish the friendships and experiences gained during the program, carry forward Peking University's spirit of "seeking truth through innovation," and welcomed them to return to the School of Computer Science for future study.

Over the past four years, the International Summer School on Advanced Topics in Computer Science has served as a high-level platform for international academic exchange, enabling talented students worldwide to engage with the frontiers of computer science, broaden their global perspectives, and strengthen cross-cultural collaboration. Looking ahead, the School of Computer Science at Peking University will continue to advance international academic exchange, foster an open and globally oriented educational environment, and provide broader opportunities for talented students from around the world.
