2026 Orientation Session for New International Students

In the fall of 2026, the School of Computer Science at Peking University welcomed 15 new international graduate students from Canada, Australia, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Brazil, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Mongolia, including 11 master’s students and 4 doctoral students. The new students graduated from overseas universities including the University of Toronto, the University of New South Wales, the University of Amsterdam, and the University of Alberta, further enriching the diversity of the School’s international student community.

On September 4, the School of Computer Science held an orientation session for new international students. Vice Dean Zhou Minghui, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee Wei Peng, Yang Shu, He Wenbin, and Wu Ziyi from the Office of Internationalization, and Hu Po and Jiang Dan from the Academic Affairs Office attended the event.

Vice Dean Zhou Minghui delivered welcoming remarks and warmly welcomed the new international students to the School of Computer Science. She expressed her hope that the students would build a solid foundation in research during their studies at Peking University, make full use of the rich educational, research, and academic resources available at the University and the School, broaden their academic horizons, and enhance their overall capabilities. She also encouraged the students to serve as bridges connecting Peking University with their home countries, promoting communication and collaboration among young scholars from different countries and contributing to the development of talent in computer science.

Following the welcome remarks, Hu Po from the Academic Affairs Office gave a detailed presentation in English on coursework, degree requirements, and student status management. The session covered course selection, credit requirements, master’s and doctoral training requirements, student registration, and procedures for studying abroad, helping new students gain a comprehensive understanding of the School’s academic and administrative requirements and prepare for their studies and research.

During the student experience-sharing session, second-year master’s students Konstantin Garbers from Germany, Huang Xiangyu from Malaysia, and Qu Huishan shared their experiences in academic studies and research, campus life, social activities, and living in Beijing. Drawing on their own experiences, they also offered practical advice to the new students.

The session featured a lively atmosphere, with new students actively raising questions and engaging in discussions with current students. Through these exchanges, the new students gained a better understanding of the School’s academic environment and campus life, while also having the opportunity to connect with one another and become more familiar with the School community.

International students are an important part of the School’s internationalization efforts. With the arrival of students from diverse countries and regions, the School’s international learning environment continues to grow more diverse and inclusive. We look forward to seeing the new students embark on a fulfilling and rewarding journey of study and research at Peking University, embrace exchange and collaboration with an open mind, and write their own inspiring chapters on campus.
